Equality Act 2010 on Course for 1 October 2010 Implementation

It appears that the Equality Act 2010 will be implemented as planned on 1 October 2010, despite recent reports that the Government was considering delaying it.

Professional Support Lawyer Elizabeth Stevens reports.

The Government Equalities Office (GEO) recently removed reference to the implementation date of 1 October 2010 from its website, creating speculation that some parts of the Act may be delayed or even not implemented.

A press release issued by the GEO has since confirmed that “the first wave of implementation of the Equality Act will go ahead to the planned October timetable”. The first commencement order has now been published by Parliament.

A summary Quick Start Guide for Employers has been published by Acas and can be accessed on their website by clicking here.
