The start of the Formula 1 season was celebrated in style at a giant Scalextric fundraising event held at the Hethel Engineering Centre on 11th March for children’s charity Nelson’s Journey.
The event, organised by Steeles Law of Norwich, Diss and London, raised £1000 for the charity’s Smile Campaign, which will go towards the £350,000 needed to purchase a new building and extend their range of services.
Nelson’s Journey, launched in 1997, supports children and young people under the age of 18, living in Norfolk, who have experienced the death of a significant person in their life, such as a parent or sibling.
The Scalextric evening attracted 80 leading business people from across the region. A giant 8-lane, Scalextric track saw 15 teams compete under current or former F1 team names to win coveted Team Winner, Fastest Lap and Individual Winner trophies.
To set the scene, the night also included Formula 1 style live commentary and an advanced computerised lap timing and race results system.
The night was topped off with a charity auction in aid of Nelson’s Journey, where guests bid for items donated by local businesses including a Virgin Experience, a Winsor Bishop gift voucher and a Scalextric F1 Starter Set, as well as gifts ideal for motorsport buffs such as a Lewis Hamilton signed photo and a Jaguar Hotwheels 10" model of the old Mark Webber R4 F1 car.
The event highlights the work Steeles Law carries out in the motorsport industry, which includes famously, and successfully representing former FIA President Max Mosley in his privacy case against The News of The World, as well as continuing to work for Cosworth as they celebrate their return to the Formula One grid this season.
Steeles Law Partner James Tarling comments, “We wanted to mark the start of the F1 season with local businesses and racing Scalextric underneath Ayrton Senna’s old Lotus F1 car was a great way to do it. We are also delighted to have been able to support such a fantastic local charity as Nelson’s Journey.”
