Solicitors Show They Care With Will Aid

Solicitors at a Norwich-based law firm will next month do their bit to help transform lives of children, their families and communities across the world by taking part in Will Aid.

Lawyers at Steeles Law at its Norwich, Diss and London offices will draw up Wills for clients - just asking for a donation to the Will Aid charity in return.  People can put their affairs in order and help charities at the same time.

Will Aid was founded in 1988 by Solicitor Greame Pagan.  In the spirit of Live Aid, he was deeply moved by the famine in Ethiopia and wanted to involve his profession in action.

Less than half the adults in Britain have made a Will, a vital way to protect and provide security for family and loved ones in the future.

If someone dies without a Will it can take years to sort out the estate, leaving their nearest and dearest in great distress.

Steeles Law solicitors will show they care by running the WillAid campaign throughout November to help charities including ActionAid, British Red Cross, Christian Aid, the NSPCC, Save the Children and others at the same time.

Once you have made a Will it is important that you just don’t forget about it.  Many changes in your life affect the validity of your Will; moving house is just one of these.  In a recent report it was found that people are more than four time more likely to have received their gas and electricity supplier than their Will.

WillAid suggests donations of £75 for a single Will, £110 for a pair of matching Wills or £40 for a codicil (an amendment to a Will).

Cash gifts of £40 could provide water purification tablets for 26 families, £75 pays for one child with cataract to have the operation to restore their sight, £95 could pay for an ox for a refugee family their lives and £110 could pay for six adults with cataracts to have the operation to restore their sight.

WillAid has raised almost £7 million in donations and much more in legacies since it was launched 21 years ago helping people in need in the UK and all over the world with projects like helping street children in Ghana, providing clean drinking water to remote schools in Tibet and providing vital care to the elderly in the UK

Sam Hussain Solicitor in the Wills and Probate Team said  “The firm is keen to get involved in supporting charities and we hope that local people will take part in this scheme and help us raise a lot of money for the WillAid charities.”

The national scheme is supported by Annette Crosbie, Dame Judi Dench, Richard Briers and Graham Norton.

*Also with Will Aid you can register your will for free with the Certainty National Wills Register - it usually costs £28.75 - during the campaign.
